With Apple Rabbit Compost, the City of Jacksonville, and Jax Parks, we're working to provide oyster shell recycling for local restaurants, raw bars, and events.

Thank you to our recycling partners!

Here's how it works:

After you enjoy your oysters at one of our partner restaurants, staff separates shells from trash and the crews at Jax Oyster Conservation at Apple Rabbit Compost, collect shells for recycling. This helps local businesses reduce their waste and provide a material stockpile for restoration.

Shells are then left out to cure so potentially harmful bacteria can die off, before being reused.

Finally, shells are reused to create restoration structures like Pervious Oyster Shell Habitats, or ("POSH"), to be deployed along shorelines, restoring oyster habitat!
